Safety and Health Coordinator / Coordination

Where multiple employers’ employees work together, coordination and cooperation are essential. Most workplace accidents occur due to a lack of professional coordination. According to the Decree No. 4/2002. (II.20) GKM-EuM, in order to ensure safe and healthy work that does not endanger human health, a qualified person must be employed both in the planning and execution phases. This person is referred to as a coordinator.

The tasks of the health and safety coordinator include:

  • Ensuring that the rules regarding occupational safety are enforced during the preparation, execution, and planning of the project. This involves creating documentation that outlines the requirements for health, safety, and technology to ensure safe work practices.
  • Professionally verifies the safety and health plans and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Coordinates the implementation of preventive measures and safety. During the planning phase, different work phases and stages are defined, including determining the duration of each phase or stage.
  • Health and safety coordinator/coordination in relation to execution activities:
  • Compiling occupational safety materials.
  • The health and safety coordinator is responsible for harmonizing requirements to ensure that both the employer and the contractors who are personally performing the work adhere to the minimum safety requirements and those specified in the health and safety plan at the workplace.
  • Preparing additional documentation if necessary to ensure safety, health protection, and safe working conditions.
  • Cooperation at workplaces is concurrent, both among employees and employers, in the coordination of individual activities.
  • Coordination of individual work processes
  • Necessary measures are taken to ensure that only those entitled can enter the workplace.

Based on the health and safety plan, the contractor can only start setting up the workplace if the health and safety plan is an integral part of the documentation.

This plan must specify the health and safety requirements for the workplace and the work to be performed. The plan must include those important measures that can be carried out in parallel with each other during work to eliminate hazards.

The health and safety coordinator/coordination identifies jobs and working conditions that pose an increased risk to safety and health.

  • These include jobs that endanger the physical integrity of the worker through burial or sinking in marshy areas, defining work associated with hazardous substances, biological factors, and work tied to periodic occasional inspections defined by law.
  • Work performed in radiation-hazardous work areas and the subsequent effects thereof.
  • The risks of work carried out near high-voltage lines.
  • Work performed in an area associated with the risk of electromagnetic radiation.
  • Defining circumstances that involve a risk of drowning.
  • The dangers of work carried out in tunnels, underground.
  • Work carried out by vehicle operators.
  • Works performed under pressure, like ready-mixed concrete operations.
  • Work related to explosive materials.
  • Tasks associated with the assembly and disassembly of heavy elements.
