A fire hydrant is a specialized surface or underground water tap used for firefighting. Such hydrants are typically street usage points. There is no option to regulate the water quantity or pressure, allowing direct access for firefighting professionals.
Fire hydrants in buildings, whether wall-mounted, underground, or above ground, must be regularly inspected. The frequency of this inspection may vary depending on the type of device, and it must be repeated annually.
Records must be kept for the inspection of fire hydrants, measuring the discharge pressure, and the hoses must undergo a pressure test every five years. We perform inspections and assessments of fire hydrants, as well as prepare the records required by law.
The inspection of all fire hydrants available to the fire department is mandated by the National Fire Protection Regulations. The responsible authorities ensure that the necessary tasks regarding fire hydrants are carried out. The inspection may only be performed by individuals with a valid fire protection qualification.
In Hungary, the legal regulations regarding the inspection of fire hydrants are outlined in Section 54/2014 (XII. 5.) BM §§ 266-267.
The responsible organization is in charge of ensuring the operational readiness of fire water sources, accessibility, and the execution of prescribed regular inspections, maintenance, repairs, and pressure tests. The inspection can only be carried out by individuals holding a fire protection certificate specifically for the inspection of fire water sources. Failing to conduct the inspection, addressing faults, or performing the pressure test on a fire hydrant may result in significant financial penalties.
The register must include:
- The name of the operating company
- A clear identifier for the fire hydrant
- The date of the inspection and maintenance
- The signature of the inspecting person and their certificate number
- Any deficiencies and findings discovered
During the inspection of the fire hydrant, we will examine:
- The correctness and readability of the required inscriptions and markings as stipulated by regulations
- Accessibility for approach and the proper usability of its accessories
- Protection against corrosion
- The presence and integrity of the sources
- Notification to the operator in case of damage to the corrosion protection
- Flushing of the network if necessary
The wall-mounted fire hydrant connected to a dry fire-water system must be inspected every six months, and a pressure test must be performed every five years. During the inspection, our qualified colleagues will check the accessibility, the appropriate functioning of the cabinet door, and the presence and integrity of the fittings. In the case of a design without a cabinet, the accessibility, the presence and integrity of the cap valves, and the possibility of venting the pipes will be assessed. The inspecting person will notify in writing about any deficiencies found.
The valve cabinet and its accessories must be inspected at least every six months and fully once a year. Since they are subjected to pressure, they must also undergo a pressure test every five years.
The pools, tanks, and other water sources must be inspected semi-annually, with a comprehensive examination required every five years. Additionally, pressure testing of the accessories must be ensured.
